If you enjoy the ritual of sitting down at your departure gate to kill some time with your iPad while waiting for your flight to board, you might want to avoid flying out of LaGuardia, Minneapolis-St. Paul, or Toronto airports in the coming months.
That’s because airport restaurateur OTG will be deploying thousands of Apple tablets at the airports over the next year-and-a-half, and your iPad chillin’ time could be taken up by your less tech-savvy travel companions who will likely have all kinds of questions for you about operating the blasted contraptions.

A few hundred iPads are already in place in LaGuardia airport in New York. OTG uses the tablets in its dining areas, where customers can order via the touch screen and then check their Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail accounts, as well as some news, gaming, and other apps while they wait for their food to be delivered.
“We believe this to be the largest deployment of consumer-facing iPads in the world, and for us, it’s just the beginning,” Rick Blatstein, chief executive officer of OTG, said in a statement.
All interaction on the iPads is done through a custom browser, and OTG says all user passwords and other personal information are wiped at the end of each session. I’ve heard no such assurances from the TSA and other security cameras that are certainly watching your every move and keystroke, however.
OTG operates restaurants in seven other airports, including John F. Kennedy, Boston Logan, Tucson, Washington National, Orlando, Chicago O’Hare, and Philadelphia.
