D’ANNUNZIO BIKE, COMMENTO DI JON ARNE ENEVOLDSEN

October 3rd, 2010
D’Annunzio Mountain Race Day – 18 degrees Celsius and overcast skies, perfect weather for a race. On a preride earlier in the week we took a couple extra roads which resulted in a 5 hr ride. This led us believe that it would be a 3-4 hour race. At the time, we thought the course was vertically intimidating and consisted of a generous amounts of turn offs to watch for. The course consisted of cobblestone, pavement, grass, old road, mud, slick rock, gravel, dirt, concrete and brick. The first 4 km were steep and winding thought the town up in to the hill side, then it was rolling for about 10 km, a 6 km grind to the top at the 20 km mark, which left 12 km of mostly descending. Preriding the course was a definite advantage, it helped us prepare mentally and we were able to anticipate the next segment of the course. The race was over for us between 2:30 to 3:00. We were pleased with the results and hungry. The event was followed up by a pasta party and later on we enjoyed real italian pizza. This is an event worth coming back for. The entry was 25 euro which included the pasta party, refreshments and a saddle.
